I have never really tried anything quite like this before… but I was really curious, so I figured why not? I had done a teeny bit of research online so I would have a little bit of an idea of what to expect. And I half wish I had some crazy story to share with you now, but the whole experience was pretty chill. The Reiki practitioner I chose to visit also offers massages and other holistic health type things. Her office was located in a more suburban area of Kansas City and she was wholly less eccentric than I had expected.
She had major grandma vibes, which made me feel much more comfortable. We went over what she would be doing; I would be lying on the table and she would lightly put her hands on me to cleanse my energy. She explained that I might feel warm or cold spots, tummy gurgles, twitches, and other things, but that all of this was totally normal. To paint the scene better, the table was a massage table with a plush blanket over the top. The room was small but had a window with drawn curtains, a table-top fountain that supplied a nice sound of bubbling water, soft instrumental music playing, and a lamp that softly lit the room.
I closed my eyes during the whole session and tried to repeat my new and oh-so-relaxing mantra of surrender over and over in my head to remind myself why I was trying this out and that if I wanted to get anything out of it, I needed to be open and surrender to the moment. Very quickly, my feel became cold. In the name of being totally impartial and giving you all the facts, I will say my feet are often cold. Something I couldn’t explain though was a warm feeling in my belly. It felt like I had just eaten really spicy food or drank something too hot (which I hadn’t). I absolutely cannot explain my warm belly. There was nothing on my stomach, no heater or anything like that. It was warm by its own accord.
I had lots of tummy gurgles and a few little twitches and chills throughout the session. After the session was over, the Reiki healer told me that I have a quiet energy and that my knee and feet were cold, which could mean that I am starting down a new path, but don’t totally know what my next steps should be.
I really connected with that analysis as I am feeling a little confused to what my next steps in so many of my endeavors should be.
All in all, I found the session to be interesting and maybe useful. I am feeling a little bit lighter today and am proud of myself for doing something totally new to me. Will I ever go back? Maybe. Would I encourage you to try Reiki for yourself? Yes, totally. If nothing else, you will get a great meditation session out of it.
